Becoming a Libertarian - it's a lot like turning 18 years old and moving out of your parents house.
Every kid likes the idea of moving out of their parents house, but are worried about what will happen after they actually move out.... "what am I going to do?!" Parents aren't there to pay for your clothes, your car, gas, education, food, cable, cell phone..... Oh No, how does anyone live without their Mommy or Daddy?? Well, somehow, we do it. We learn. We get a job. We learn some more. We grow up. We keep learning. We live and let live.
Well, our government has the grown children of our country scared to live without them. So many people (we call them "liberals" for some reason) have no idea how to live without the idea of government intervention or intervening in everyone elses lives. They have no idea where to turn or how to live. Even "conservative" voters who talk of freedoms can't see the trees for the forest. They think they have to support a large intrusive organization to save them from another large intrusive organization. They want to be on the popular team with the popular kids for safety and protection. They all want protection under Mommy and Daddy Government.... because government has them scared and thinking that they can't live on their own. And with that supposed protection comes the loss of Freedom. Well, come to find out, Mommy and Daddy Government are actually foster parents trying to make the children work to support them and their drug habits. In fact, the children have been doing all the work the whole time and don't even realize it.
Once you realize that you've grown up and you can live on your own, you find Freedom. Once you find Freedom, you don't want to let it go. When you find Freedom, you'll find that you're a Libertarian.
