At 1:43am on December 25, 2008, Richard Fitzgerald said…: I just got home from the traditional lighting of the Christmas Bonfires. It's a tradition over 2 hundred years old here in Louisiana. We line the Banks of the Mississippi River with Huge Bonfires, to help St. Nicholas find his way to New Orleans.

It's also a great example of the people standing up against regulation. About 20 years ago, the government tried to ban this saying it was too dangerous. We built them and lit them anyway. Then they said we must get permits, and insurance. We built them and lit them anyway. Now tourists come from around the World to see them, and it's encouraged by the government.

I say question authority, defy authority, resist control.
