The Social Network For Libertarians

I ordered a whole bunch of pocket sized constitutions to hand out and i'm going to starting a project called Freeman a project to help push the libertarian ideas in the black community, which is pretty much the whole community,I have lived in this area my whole life and know many people around here but I want to spread the word of our revolution that's taking place right now,it is a must considering most of my family alone admitted to voting for obama because he was black, this must stop, the black community(all communities but I want to push it extra hard on the black community) must understand libertarianism so maybe in 2012 we might have a hope for freedom and liberty in our lifetime. If you have any ideas how to get this project moving send me a message.

Passing out the free Pocket Constitutions is a great way to spread the word of Liberty. Handing someone a Constitution opens the door for easy non-confrontational dialogue to discuss how the government under Democrat and Republican rule has completely failed to uphold the values that our Republic was founded on.

I love the Constitution. But I have been increasingly alarmed at how many Libertarians (mostly anarchists) would like to see the Constitution burned and done away with. They say that it is statist, that it acts like it grants rights, and that it is not true liberty-minded (these people that I speak of are many Libs who I have seen in Libertarian groups on Myspace). What does everyone else think of this? On another note, does the Libertarian Party actually agree with restoring the Constitution?

P.S. Where can I get a pocket-sized Cosntitution? I have a poster-sized replica of it that I bought at the National Archives last summer, but I want one that I can carry around where I go.

On the left column of the main page there is a picture of a pocket Constitution, if you click on that you'll be taken to a website where you can order a Free pocket Constitution. To save you the time of going back to the main page I'll post it below.

My personal feeling is that Anarchists are fools. You can't have a Libertarian Society unless you have at least the laws that protect Self Ownership and Personal Property. Once you have laws you no longer have Anarchy, it's not a sustainable option unless you then choose to abandon the fundamental laws that protect Libertarian Principles. People can argue about "Anarcho-capitalism" or other forms of political philosophy till they are blue in the face, but my personal opinion is that "true" Anarchy (meaning absolutely no laws) is pure evil and NOT Libertarian.

The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are the two most important political documents ever written for the protection of Libertarian principles. I would consider any person who wants to burn the Constitution as a threat to my personal liberty. It's a completely ignorant concept to burn it. All of the wrongs we have, have come from the government IGNORING the Constitution. The goal is to ENFORCE it! Not burn it.

If you examine the Libertarian Party Platform, you'll see that every plank is designed to remove powers from government that are not provided for by the Constitution and to uphold and protect the ones that are.

Thank you for that. I feel the same way about so-called "anarcho-capitalists". I consider them extremists and I don't care if they are libertarians, I don't like extremism.

Well I consider my self a anarcho capitalist, in some respects I don't think we are extrimist,I mean most repub and dems would say the same thing about libertarians I disagree we need as many freedom loving individuals as we can get we can't fight amonst are selves when the dems are running are country in to the ground.

I agree in some respects. I just dislike the idea of a provatized justice system, privatized law enforement, provatized military(s), and no Constitution.

There's a big difference between being an "anarcho-capitalist" and being an "extreme anarchist." The problem is there are a lot young idealist out there attaching these various "names" to themselves without truly understanding what they even mean. These people are running around calling themselves "anarchists" because they think it sounds cool, but what they actually believe is anarcho-capitalism or probably closer to minarchist-capitalism or even just plain libertarianism. This is another failure of the government controlled school system. Young people should be properly educated about the full spectrum of political philosophies. I mean, we expect Americans to begin voting by age 18, when most Americans have never even heard the word "Libertarian" by age 18. Most Americans graduate school not even knowing that there are more than two political parties in our country. This is why the Constitution did NOT give the congress the power to regulate education.

I agree. I also feel bad because I was once one of those that you speak of. I was calling myself an anarcho-capitalist because i thought i agreed with the principles of that belief. However, i studied it and came to find that I did not wholly agree with it, so I returned to being a Constitutionalist minarchist.

I have found that the best way to get through to people is to leave any party name out of the conversation... at first. Hey, do you want to be free?.. hell yeah. Do you want the government to chill out and back off?.. yep. Do you realize how many laws and actions are unconstitutional (they probably don't), having a constitution on hand is a GREAT way to show that. Are you upset with your parties actions? Given that most people are rep or dem, they probably are. I also order Libertarian brochures to have on hand when someone seems interested. The best way is to gauge the approach by the person you're approaching and do your best to know your shit and be prepared with facts to back you up. Americans want facts and our present government is highly unwilling to give those out. That's where we come in. Inform people without seeming like an elitist, many regular Joe Americans don't understand political terms or the US Constitution and those who have heard of libertarianism have sometimes also heard that we are a group of people who see ourselves as intellectual and/or political elitists and idealists, it's easy enough to cut that off before it starts, just talk to people. Although it's bad to generalize, I can usually figure out the best approach by just looking at the person and paying attention to what kind of vocabulary they have (I know.. that sounds horrible), but it lets you in on what kind of words they'll pay attention to and how deep their understanding is. If the person has no idea what your words mean they can't really open their eyes to what you are saying.
